COGNITIVE STRATEGIES OF THE MANIPULATIVE COMMUNICATIVE STYLES

Abstract:  This article presents a comprehensive examination of cognitive strategies, with a specific focus on those derived from an analysis of manipulative communicative styles. The primary object of this research is manipulative communicative styles, while the subject centers on cognitive strategy. The study utilizes a cognitive-discursive framework.
This study defines cognitive strategies as cognitive units that correlate with the motivational phase of the speech generation model. We decontextualized these strategies using experimental material, which allows for a thorough analysis of manipulative communicative styles. These styles describe two distinct ways of manipulation with a focus on the bipolar cognitive style IMPULSIVITY – REFLECTIVITY, the concept of Manipulator roles by E. Shostrom and the theory of politeness by P. Brown and S. Levinson.
Ultimately, the research identifies cognitive strategies as intentional cognitive units that manifest within an expressional framework at the discourse level. This characterization not only accounts for the preverbal stage involved in speech production but also enables a thorough analysis of actual discourse, informed by communicative markers of manipulative communicative styles. Through this approach, the study contributes to the broader understanding of how cognitive and communicative processes intersect, particularly in contexts where manipulation is a significant
factor.
