ON METACOGNITIVE ASPECTS OF FACT VERIFICATION IN THE FIELD OF ELECTION DEBATES

Abstract:  The article examines the complex and multidimensional nature of fact verification in the field of election debates based on the analysis of its metacognitive aspects, including three types of metacognitive knowledge – knowledge of the conditions of communication in the field of election debates, declarative and procedural knowledge.
The main research methods used are the inferential analysis method, which provides prediction of inferential knowledge and its interpretation; a method of cognitive modeling, the focus of which is to create a data verification model in the field of election debates, taking into account verification techniques, cognitive mechanisms of information processing and ranking the degree of truthfulness of the statements of each participant in the election debates. An additional method is statistical analysis, which was used to show the bias in the verifier’s assessment due to the verifier’s affiliation with a liberal news publication that openly supports the Democratic Party. This was manifested in the nature of the evaluative modality.
The prospect of this study lies in the possibility of using the results obtained to study the features of the data verification process in the field of other types of discourse, as well as on the material of other languages.
